Sunfest 2009: The PBPulse Preview

The failing economy has dictated that changes in the media business model are upon us. Print circulation has lost it’s viability and the web has officially moved to the forefront. In response The Palm Beach Post is vying for contention of the next big thing as they gear up for the launch of pbpulse.com, set to go live on May 1, 2009.

Though little is known about the site leading up to it’s launch the key indicator that pbpulse.com is going to be big can be ascertained by their ties to Sunfest 2009. The five day festival hosting an array of musical genres from pop, rock, reggae, surf and punk has one of it’s three stages named in promotion of the pbpulse.com website. This might not seem like much on it’s own but when considering the other two stages are titled Tire Kingdom and Coors Light, I figure The Post is putting a lot of stock into this venture.

Even bigger than the stage name are the list of artist scheduled to play the pbpulse.com stage. Wednesday, April 29, 2009, has a line-up of smaller surf rock and punk bands warming up the crowd for headliner 311. One of those bands, The Mae Shi, has just come off tour with friends of anti-fascion.com, Matt & Kim.

Friday night May 1, 2009, Sunfest steals Pennywise and Pepper away from the Jagermeister Tour. The line-up is solidified by the addition of longtime Pepper tourmates Slightly Stoopid and the under-publicized opening band The Expendibles. Sharing the stage with Less Than Jake and The Flatliners on last tour which stopped in Ft. Lauderdale, The Expendibles stole the show. Make sure to get there early as to not miss out.

Other bands of interest include local reggae act The Resolvers, reggae legends UB-40 and the critically acclaimed Cold War Kids on Saturday May 2, 2009. Be sure to look out for local bands The Pretty Faces from Boca Raton and B-Liminal from Jupiter playing before Philadelphia’s best export since Tastykakes, G. Love and the Special Sauce on Sunday, May 3, 2009.
